Quality is the Expectation, Excellence is the Goal.

Online SAT Prep

Vanguard College Prep teaches SAT prep live online, in small classes, to students anywhere in the United States. We have taught test prep since 2011. Our approach is simple: students learn the math, reading and grammar the SAT actually tests, instead of memorizing tricks. That takes longer than a crash course, and it lasts longer too.

How our online SAT program works

  1. Diagnostic and plan. Every student starts with a full SAT diagnostic, then meets with a director to build a personal plan.
  2. Subject Phase. Students build real mastery of math, grammar and reading before they touch test strategy. They learn what is tested, not just how it is tested.
  3. Application Phase. Students apply those skills to SAT questions through targeted practice, pattern recognition and timed work under test conditions.
  4. Drilling and Testing Phases. Practice tests and drills run together to fine tune the score before test day. Students take full-length practice tests from Vanguard's own library of more than 20 full SAT practice tests, built for the digital SAT.
  5. Continued support. Students keep access to office hours and study support after the core curriculum, up to their official test dates.

Small classes, by design

  • Never more than 9 students per instructor. Most classes have 6 or 7.
  • Students are grouped with classmates at the same level, based on their diagnostic.
  • Instructors come from top universities and scored in the top percentiles themselves.
  • Pick only the subjects you need. A student who is strong in English and only needs math enrolls in math only.
  • Parents can follow progress, homework, tests, schedules and attendance in our web app.

Start early, finish early

Most families think about the SAT in junior year. We start students as early as 9th grade and aim to finish SAT prep by the end of 10th grade. That frees junior and senior year for AP classes, leadership, activities and college applications, the parts of a profile that set a student apart.

Results

Our program is built to take a student from any starting score to a top score. Kunju started at 980 and finished with a perfect 1600. Keertan started at 1160 and finished at 1530.

Online SAT prep FAQ

Is online SAT prep as good as in-person tutoring?

It can be, when classes are live and small. Our classes are taught live by an instructor, never more than 9 students, so students get questions answered in the moment and stay accountable to a group.

When should my child start SAT prep?

We recommend starting as early as 9th grade, with the goal of finishing by the end of 10th grade. Starting early lets students build skills properly instead of cramming in junior year.

Is 9th grade too early to start SAT prep?

No. The SAT tests math, reading and grammar skills that 9th graders are already building. Our Subject Phase teaches those skills first, so an early start turns into a stronger foundation, not burnout.

Do you teach the digital SAT?

Yes. Our program prepares students for the current digital SAT. Students take full-length practice tests from our own library of more than 20 full SAT practice tests, separate from the College Board's Bluebook tests.

Can my student take only the math or only the reading and writing section?

Yes. Our a la carte system lets students enroll only in the subjects they need.

Where are you located?

Our office is in McKinney, Texas, and all classes are taught online, so we work with families in any state.

How do we get started?

Book a diagnostic. Your student takes a full SAT diagnostic, then you meet with a director to build a plan.
